Part 5 - Advanced Scripts
19. The Complete Script: Combine Everything
Goal: Assemble role, context, task, examples, format, rules and verification into one strong prompt.
This is where it all comes together. A professional-grade script layers the techniques you have learned: a role for perspective, context for fit, a clear task, an example for style, a format for usability, rules for control, and a verification step for trust.
You will not need every layer every time. But knowing the full stack means you can build a prompt that reliably produces exactly what you want, even for a complex, high-stakes task.
The Script (Template)
You are [ROLE]. Context: [CONTEXT]. Task: [TASK]. Example of the style I want: [EXAMPLE]. Format: [FORMAT]. Rules: [RULES]. After the answer, flag anything I should verify.
Worked Example
You write
You are an experienced high-school science teacher. Context: my students are 15 and find physics intimidating. Task: explain Newton's first law. Example of style: friendly, uses one everyday analogy. Format: a short paragraph, then 2 bullet-point takeaways. Rules: no equations, under 120 words. Then flag anything I should verify.
AI replies (sample)
Think of a coffee cup on a car dashboard. When the car suddenly brakes, the cup keeps sliding forward - it 'wants' to keep doing what it was doing. That is Newton's first law: an object stays still, or keeps moving the same way, unless a force acts on it. - Things don't change their motion on their own. - It takes a push or pull (a force) to speed up, slow down or turn. To verify: the law's wording is standard, but double-check your textbook's exact phrasing.
Why it works
Seven techniques worked together - role, context, task, style example, format, rules and a verify step - producing a classroom-ready explanation on the first try.
Do & Avoid
Tips
- Use the full stack for important tasks; trim layers for quick ones.
- Keep each layer on its own line so the prompt stays readable.
Common Mistakes
- Adding every layer to a trivial request and drowning it in instructions.
- Layers that contradict each other (e.g. 'formal' role but 'playful' rule).
Practice
- Build one complete, multi-layer script for a task that matters to you.
- Remove one layer at a time and observe what each contributes.
My Practice — capture your own script
Write your own version of this lesson's script, run it in your AI chat, then paste the reply. Your work is saved on this device; use Download to keep a copy.
