Divan Shams is a collection of poems written by the Persian poet and Sufi mystic Mawlānā Jalāl-ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī, also known as Rumi. A compilation of lyric poems written in the Persian language, it contains 3,230 ghazals. While following the long tradition of Sufi poetry as well as the traditional metrical conventions of ghazals, the poems in the Divan showcase Rumi's unique, trance-like poetic style. Written in the aftermath of the disappearance of Rumi's beloved spiritual teacher, Shams-i Tabrizi, the Divan is dedicated to Shams and contains many verses praising him and lamenting his disappearance. Although not a didactic work, Divan still explores deep philosophical themes, particularly those of love and longing.

The object of this work is to translate all poems of Divan Shams, line by line so that the young generation of Persians unable to read the original Farsi can read it and encourage them to learn Farsi.

دیوان شمس، مجموعه‌ای از شعرهایی است که توسط شاعر و متصوف پارسی مولانا جلال‌الدین محمد بلخی، که به نام رومی هم شناخته می‌شود، نوشته شده است. این مجموعه شامل ۳۲۳۰ غزل است و شعرهای آن به زبان فارسی نوشته شده‌اند. در حالی که در ردیف طولانی از شعرهای صوفی و با رعایت قواعد سنتی غزل، شعرهای دیوان، سبک شعری ویژه و ترنس‌بندی رومی را نشان می‌دهند. این اثر پس از ناپدید شدن معلم روحانی محبوب رومی، شمس تبریزی، نگارش یافته و به شمس اختصاص یافته است و شامل بسیاری از بیت‌ها و مصائب دربارهٔ تعریف و تأسف دربارهٔ ناپدید شدن او است. هر چند دیوان به عنوان یک اثر آموزشی تلقی نمی‌شود، اما همچنان به بررسی مباحث فلسفی عمیق، به ویژه مباحث عشق و هوس، می‌پردازد.

هدف این کار، ترجمه تمامی شعرهای رومی به شیوه خط به خط است (متن فارسی و در کنار آن همان خط به انگلیسی) که نسل جوان ایرانی نمی توانند شعرهای دیوان شمس فارسی اصیل را بخوانند، بتوانند آن را بخوانند و کم کم تشویق به یادگیری زبان فارسی بشوند.
