Learn Chess

Objective

The goal of chess is to checkmate your opponent's king. This means the king is under attack and has no way to escape.

Basic Rules

• White moves first, then players take turns
• Each piece moves differently:
  • Pawns move forward one square (two on first move)
  • Rooks move horizontally or vertically
  • Bishops move diagonally
  • Knights move in an "L" shape
  • Queen moves in any direction
  • King moves one square in any direction
• Capture opponent pieces by landing on their square
• Protect your king at all times!
